Towards Purpose

For Adult Men
Winter 2025

8-Week Online/Remote
Facilitator: Dr. Rhian Daniel

Finding purpose in life is the single most important factor for joy and happiness, and for minimizing or eliminating clinical sadness and depression.

When we feel purpose in our life we find meaning to exist.
When we feel meaning to exist we find motivation and drive.
And, when we feel motivated and driven we don’t experience negative states, such as sadness or depression.

Furthermore, when we’re experiencing motivation and drive we’re very much present-moment, and not in the past or future, both of which bring about negative states of being.

But, how do we find purpose-in-life?

The single biggest fallacy around the concept of purpose-in-life is that it’s a job/career/profession. It IS not.

Towards Purpose - For Adult Men

Do you ever question life? Why am I here? What’s it about? What does it mean to be human? Do I have a purpose, and if so what is it?

Have you checked all life’s boxes, but feel as if life is pointless, has no meaning, or feel as if something is still missing? Or maybe had a traumatic experience that has left you questioning life.

There’s no doubt, we are here for a reason. But, what is it?

It is not uncommon for men, after having experiences beyond schooling years, to begin question the meaning of life–their life. And, there’s a legitimate reason for this.

We often successfully accomplish many of the expectations imposed upon us by family, society, culture, and religion, not realizing these are not our inner most desires, but rather external expectations. They are things we are told to do, not want we truly want to do. Consequently, true happiness and fulfillment is never obtained and existential issues begin to emerge.

These issues can be experienced from the pressure of these expectations alone, without actually completing any. Furthermore, trying to maintain a façade of joy and happiness based upon the completion of these expectations can be exhausting and depressing.

Either way, it’s important to understand that these external expectations are other people’s myths for happiness and meaning. Only you know what your story is, and having other people impose theirs upon you is only to make themselves feel better about the lack of meaning in their own lives (misery loves company, right).

So what’s your story? Aren’t you curious? What’s your internal guiding myth for peace, harmony, and happiness?

Individuation is not only an upward but also a downward process.

Course Purpose

The purpose of this course is to provide men with the knowledge and tools they need to be good men, real men; and show them a pathway towards that objective that is omitted from current cultural and societal learnings and eduction.

This course was specifically created with four objectives in mind. First, to help men recognize their own skills and intelligence to navigate the numerous difficulties and challenges associated with manhood. Second, to install the concept that each of us has a purpose-in-life, a meaningful existence; and, an understanding of the various aspects that contribute to successfully embracing and embodying the concept of a purpose-in-life. Third, to help men unify purpose one and two, and use this intelligence and these skills to transform as modern men. And fourth, to understand and implement the practical steps required to facilitate the process.

One’s purpose-in-life can actually be quite a complicated subject area to explore. It takes time, and rarely happens overnight. This is due to time and programing/conditioning. For example, if you take your age, this is how many years you’ve spent creating the idea of who you think you are–with non-stop validation from the people around, be they correct or incorrect.

Therefore, this course is designed to allow participants to explore topics, as they pertain their individuality, between meetings. Topics will be introduced, discussed, and clarified during group meetings, and participants will self/Self explore the topic between meetings. This homework is actually self/Self work, and imperative to this process.

Other topics that may be discussed during this course include:
  • Effects of Indigenous vs modern Western ideologies on purpose-in-life
  • Issues of Community
  • Ancestral Trauma and Healing
